This is my last post from my trip to Mexico. Though the plan for the trip was to relax as much as possible and spend every day at the beach, I could not visit Cancun without visiting the gorgeous archeological sight Chichen Itza some couple of hours away from Cancun. It was the most important capital city of the Maya and still is the sacred center for them. I read and learned a lot about the Maya and Chichen Itza in University while learning Spanish, and could not miss the opportunity to see it with my own eyes. It is absolutely gorgeous and must be visited. You will learn some extremely interesting facts about this intriguing culture. We did not go with the prepackaged tourist groups. I don't like to be on other people's schedule and hate crowds, especially when I am hot. So instead, we rented a car and organized a tour of our own. We arrived there before most of the crowds and stayed as long or as short as we wanted. It's more fun to explore on your own and ended up being quite cheaper as well.
We also visited a huge well nearby where you can also take a swim in it's really cold water. It's actually very refreshing after the hot jungle weather in Chichen Itza. Below are some pictures of the well but they don't do it justice.
After we cooled off, we headed to a charming town of Valladolid. Again, I read about it back in my University days and was beyond happy to be able to visit it in person as well. Valladolid is one of the oldest colonial cities. It is really pretty but the time and lack of maintenance have taken it's toll. I loved its people. They would smile at you genuinely as you walked by. There were many old women, very tiny in statue, wearing their traditional dresses, as you see on this beautiful girl below. I thought them to be gorgeous! I left with a lot of beautiful memories and feeling beyond satisfied.
I loved my brief visit to Mexico and the sincere politeness and kindness of people. My dream would be to visit the whole country with someone who is familiar with it. Maybe one day. This will have to do for now. Generally, I would love to visit all of the Spanish speaking countries, and can't really define why draws me to them but they are on top of my travel list. Love being able to practice my Spanish too so I don't forget it.
I chose a very light outfit for this day. I knew I was going to walk a ot so I wore again my wedges from Aldo. I just love the orange colour. I find that it makes a regular wedge more fun. Denim shorts again are my choise for hot weather because I find that they don't ride up when you walk a lot. And they just always look cool, heheeh. I wore another cotton corpped top to stay cool. Hat and sunglasses are of couse a must to protect from the scorching sun. I added some colour with my bright all-purpose embroidered bag and some jewellery. Happy long weekend to all of you who are lucky enough to have it! Ciao!
