A Carrie Bradshaw Moment

Skirt H&M Conscious Collection, top unknown, bag unknown (Winners)

Do you ever watch TV shows or movies, love the glamorous clothes the characters wear, and just wish you could do it too? Do you have a bunch of dresses and skirts, or trousers, or even that over the top coat that just sits in your closet collecting dust? We all do. We buy these amazing, glamorous pieces that we never wear or maybe, just maybe get to wear once to some special event. What a shame! Those items are the ones you want to show off the most, yet only get to wear once, or never at all. This of course does not apply to those of you who go to a lot of high glamour events. But those of us who go to regular parties, go to bars with our girlfriends, quiet date nights with our significant others, not so glamorous kids birthdays, and so on; well, we don’t get to wear these special items often.
Canada is also a very casual country. I always find that when I travel back home to Serbia or anywhere in Europe, I get to dress up more. Get more daring. But when I’m back home in Canada, I find myself pulling more casual looks. Yes, we all want to stand out, but we don’t want to “scream” that we are different.
Having said that, I have those days when I get the urge to wear a specific item. Then, I don’t care what the event is, I just wear it regardless. And why not? Even if we get those negative comments such as“Aren’t you a little overdressed?” and so on, we should not care. What’s wrong with dressing up? We could all use a bit more glamor and fun, flamboyant outfits in our lives.
This was the case for me couple of weeks ago when I wore this skirt.
I bought this beauty back in March I believe, when the last H&M conscious collection came out. I was in love!!!! I have been looking for something like this (in my price range of course) for a long time, but could not seem to find exactly what I wanted. I even contemplated having one made for me. But when this beauty came out, I was hooked. The material, the way it flows, the colour and the fit. They were just perfect. Perfect!
Well, needless to say I could not wait to wear it for the first time. I would put it on around the house, just to try it on and look at it in the mirror, but I had no weddings or dressy events in my calendar this summer. Time was passing by and this beauty was in my closet, just hanging. That’s not what it was made to do. As I said, 2 weeks ago I finally got to wear it. A friend of mine was celebrating her birthday. It was not a big affair. Just a very small group of us got together on Ward Island (Toronto Islands – a must see and explore if you visit the city), had dinner in a more casual restaurant, walked around the island and took a ferry back to mainland. We went to a friend’s patio after and had some more drinks and cake. Nothing fancy, but just a group of friends getting together. I had not planned to photograph this outfit. It was a celebration and I didn't want to bring my camera and harass someone to snap pictures of me for the blog. It was not about me, the day was about my friend. But we still very quickly snapped a few Iphone pics (and one selfie of course) so I decided to share with you here. I just wish I had taken a quick video to show you how beautifully it moves.
I had parked my car close to the Toronto Waterfron and had to walk down to water taxy station. This is when I had my Carrie Bradshaw moment! The weather was hot but there was a light breeze. As I walked the streets of Toronto, the breeze was moving the skirt around and it looked even more beautiful. Remember those scenes when Carrie is running on the streets of NYC in one of her big dresses and how they flow? I felt like that for a moment. I received so many compliments from women as I walked, that it put a smile on my face. Not because I needed compliments, but there is just something about that moment when a total stranger takes the time to give you kinds words or appreciate the outfit you are just so in love with. Don’t you think?
Well to all of you out there, take out your favourite, most glamorous items this weekend and head out with your friends, or whoever, and have fun in them. Stroll around your city and have your Carrie moment. Get carried away! (hahah sorry, I know it’s cheesy and overused, but I just had to use that line)

Niagara On The Lake - Part 2

Sneakers All Star, shorts Levi's, shirt old, bag Winners (unknown), sunglasses Aldo, bangles Joe Fresh

Hello lovelies! I figure it was about time I followed up with a post about my second day of Niagara on the Lake trip. The second day was dedicated to a scenic ride to Niagara on the Lake and a leisurely bike ride around the town. Though the town is fairly small, you are still better off checking it out on a bike. That way you won’t get tired and will still get to explore the whole town. For those of you who are like me (you become an energizer bunny the minute you travel anywhere, and annoy everyone around you because you want to visit every single thing on your very long itinerary), this may be the best way to explore and stay on your schedule.
The only issue with this whole trip was getting me a good cup of coffee. I left house on Saturday without having my morning coffee. I was hoping that at one of the vineyards I would be able to grab a good cup of Java. But, you have already read in the previous post about my issue (not really an issue, just a difficulty) about finding any food at all. So Saturday came and went with no coffee. Now, I love coffee for its taste, not because I am addicted. There is something about the whole experience of having that morning coffee. That’s my time of quiet and relaxation. Even when I am at work, I will take my 15 minutes and have my coffee in peace. Well, when I finally had my coffee on Sunday, you can only imagine how excited I was. I don’t think the picture below even comes close to showing my excitement, hehehe. Now, after this little “digression” about coffee, let me get back to my day.
As I was saying, we rode around town, visited cafes, walked the busy main street and then had a gourmet sandwich lunch by the beach. The whole weekend consisted of my favourite pleasures: bike ride, wine, food, travelling, salsa dancing (Saturday night), walks and picnics. I could not have asked for more.
For this day of exploration and leisure, I wore yet another denim short. They just seem to make the most sense and I am most comfortable in them. These are from Levi’s but I ended up folding them and stitching so they look like this. In the store they look as simply cut off with longer legs. I paired them with simple t-shirt and my favourite sneakers. I added some colour (but of course) with accessories.

Niagara On The Lake - Part 1

Shorts and top H&M, sneakers Adidas, bag unknown (Winners), earrings JLO (old), sunglasses (Aldo), watch Michael Kors, bracelets Joe Fresh

When I said I was only going to post when I had some free time and really had the urge to do so, I was not joking. And let me tell you, the time flew faster than I thought it would. After all, it’s already August. But I’d rather do this when I have the urge to do it, rather than because I should. I love doing this blog, and anything I post should be done out of love too.
Those who follow me on Instagram, have already seen this outfit, in bits and pieces. Here I share some more pictures of it. These pictures were taken couple of weeks ago. July 11th to be exact, my birthday. I had an absolutely beautiful birthday weekend. I could not wish for more. I spent two days in Niagara on the Lake and a night at Niagara Falls. Saturday was a day dedicated to wine tasting, bike rides and absolute relaxation. I am so happy we did the wine tasting and visiting wineries on a bike. We got to really enjoy and appreciate the scenery. I always feel such a sense of calm and pure happiness when I ride a bike. I only discovered how much I enjoy it last year when I purchased my bike. Before that, I had not ridden one since I was a kid.
The only little issue I encountered was that they did not serve any food in the first couple of wineries we visited. They were prepping for weddings and were not serving food to other guest. Well, I only had a light breakfast…so needless to say, after the second winery….wine got to my head. Hot sun didn’t help my state either. Luckily third one was nearby so I ingested (almost literally) a whole bunch of cheese, bread and grapes. Things got better after that heheeh. I learned something I didn’t know before. Even though I am a big red wine lover, I preferred Niagara’s white wines, whether Riesling or Chardonnay. I came home with a bottle from each winery, and they were all white! Who knew?!  Some of the wineries we visited are Chateau de Charme, Coyote’s Run, Ravine, Five Rows and Colanery Estate. Each winery had its charm. The last one was absolutely beautiful. For a moment I thought I found myself in wine country somewhere in Spain.
As for the outfit, it had to be something comfortable and light, for a bike ride in the sun. I wore a light bright top and shorts from H&M. I also chose to wear sneakers, for ease of riding. Accessories however made the outfit. I especially love these sunglasses from Aldo.
